The Lucas Purser Endowment Fund
Lucas spent his final days in our inpatient unit, surrounded by loved ones. All who had the privilege of knowing him were better for it, including our Hospice staff, who felt honored to provide comfort to him and his family. In recognition of Lucas's remarkable accomplishments in his 30 years and in gratitude for the compassionate care he received through our Hospice program, his parents established the Lucas Purser Endowment. This fund honors his memory by supporting military service members, veterans, and their families.
A 2008 graduate of Massena Central High school...
Lucas enlisted in the United States Air Force in 2008. Lucas served his country for six years before medically retiring in 2014. Battling cancer, Lucas never let his diagnosis stop him. After retiring from the Armed Forces, he attended SUNY Buffalo and was one semester away from receiving his bachelor’s degree in Computer Science. He competed in two Department of Defense Warrior Games: West Point in 2016 and Tampa in 2019. He also competed in the 2017 Invictus Games in Toronto!
After a ten-year battle with cancer...
and enduring unthinkable amounts of treatments and surgeries, Lucas, along with his parents, Wendy LaShomb and Ray Purser, decided to let Lucas have some peace, and he entered into our Hospice program.
Lucas spent his last days in our in-patient unit, surrounded by loved ones.
All that were given the gift of knowing Lucas, were better people for it. The Hospice staff amongst them, it was truly a privilege for every one of his care team to have provided comfort to Lucas and his family in his final days.
In honor of Lucas, his many accomplishments in his 30 years of life, and for the gratitude his family has for the love shown to Lucas while in our Hospice program, an endowment has been created to support military service members, veterans, and their families.
